IPv6 Static Routing on RV120W and RV220W

Objectives

Static routing requires data to follow a fixed path. Routers utilizing static routing are not required to exchange routing information with the destination router in order to determine available paths. Static routes can be used alongside dynamic routes.

This document explains how to configure IPv6 Static Routing on the RV120W and RV220W.

Step-by-Step Procedure

Configure IPv6 Static Routing

Step 1. Using the graphical user interface of the router, choose Networking > IPv6 > Routing.

 

Step 2. To add or modify an existing IPv6 static route, the options are:

• Click Add to create a new IPv6 static route. The Add / Edit Static Route Configuration page opens.

• Check the check-box next to a single entry and click Edit to modify an existing route. The Add / Edit Static Route Configuration page opens.

• Check the check-box next to the appropriate entries and click Delete to delete the selected routes.

Step 3. Enter the unique name for this route in the Route name field.

Step 4. Check the Enable check-box to have this route immediately available. The route can be enabled later if the destination host/network is not currently available.

Step 5. Enter the destination host/network for this route in the IPv6 Destination field.

Step 6. Enter the length of the prefix bits in the IPv6 Destination in the IPv6 Prefix Length field. This specifies the size of the destination subnet.

Step 7. Select the Interface from the drop-down list from which the destination host/network can be found. Any data destined to the specified IPv6 Destination will be sent out this interface. The possible options are:

• WAN (Internet) — The destination host/network can be reached through the WAN port.

• 6to4 Tunnel — The destination host/network can be reached through a 6to4 tunnel.

• LAN (Local Network) — The destination host/network can be reached through a LAN port.

Step 8. Enter the gateway through which the destination host/network can be found in the IPv6 Gateway field.

Note: The IPv6 Gateway address must be in the same subnet as the Interface chosen in Step 7.

Step 9. Click Save at the bottom of the configuration utility to save this IPv6 Static Route.

Step 10. Repeat Steps 2-9 to add or edit other IPv6 Static Routes.
