Objective
Logs allows for a variety of events to be captured and logged for review. For network administrators, the use of the log facilities can be simple way to manage network statuses. These logs can be saved locally, saved to a USB device, sent to a syslog server, or emailed to a specified address. Logs can be used to notify you of when an event of importance occurs on the RV315W.
This article helps explain how to configure log facilities on the RV315W VPN Router.

Log Facilities
Step 1. Log into the web configuration utility and choose System Management > Logs > Log Facilities. The Log Facilities page opens:
Step 2. Click the Enable radio button in the Status field. To utilize the log facilities page, the status has to be set to enable.
Note: To check the check boxes of an entire column, check the top check box of the column.
Step 3. For each facility to utilize logs, check the Log check box.
• kernel — A kernel is part of the operating system that allows access to system resources.
• system — A system is a kernel as well as the applications that enable users to alter the settings of the device.
Step 4. From the Severity drop down list, choose the appropriate setting. The security levels vary in importance, and once a setting is chosen that level, and the levels above it are recorded in the log.
• Emergency — This severity level is reserved for errors that leave the system unusable.
• Alert — This severity level is reserved for errors that require immediate action.
• Critical — This severity level is reserved for errors that are critical and must be addressed.
• Error — This severity level is reserved for error conditions.
• Warning — This severity level is reserved for warning conditions.
• Notification — This severity level is reserved for normal, but significant conditions.
• Information — This severity level is reserved for informational messages only.
• Debugging — This severity level is reserved for debugging messages.
Step 5. Check the desired check boxes to where the logs are sent.
• Local — This option saves the logs locally on the RV315W.
• USB — This option saves the logs to a USB device.
• Email Notification — This option sends the logs to an email address.
• Syslog Server — This option sends the logs to a syslog server.
Step 6. Click Save to apply settings.
