Objective

Bonjour facilitates a method to discover services on a Local Area Network. The switch as a Bonjour client periodically broadcasts Bonjour Discovery protocol packets to IP subnets which are directly connected, and thereby advertises its existence. By default, Bonjour is enabled on the Management VLAN.

When the switch is in Layer 2 mode, the Bonjour discovery is enabled globally and it cannot be enabled on a per-port or per-VLAN basis. In this case the switch advertises all the services that have been enabled by the administrator on the configuration on the Services page. When both Bonjour and ICMP are enabled, then the IP multicast address of Bonjour is shown on the Adding IP Multicast Group page. When Bonjour discovery is disabled, the switch does not advertise any service type advertisements and it does not respond to requests from the network management applications. This article explains how to enable Bonjour on the Sx500 Series Stackable Switch.
