Configuration of Host Mapping on the 200/300 Series Managed Switches

Objective

Host Mapping is used to assign a specific IP address to a domain name. With Host Mapping, the switch first looks at the entries in the Domain Name System (DNS) with a static IP address assigned, which increases overall performance of the switch. Also, with Host Mapping you can map a specific device on your network to a static IP address to make this device easy to find for the different users on your network.

This article explains the configuration of Host Mapping on the 200/300 Series Managed Switches.

Host Mapping Configuration

Step 1. Log in to the web configuration utility and choose IP Configuration > Domain Name System > Host Mapping. The Host Mapping page opens:

Step 2. Click Add. The Add Host Mapping window appears.

 

Step 3. In the IP Version field, click the IP version of the host you would like to map. The available options are:

• Version 6 — Allows you to enter an IPv6 address. If you choose this option, continue to Step 4.

• Version 4 — Allows you to enter an IPv4 address. If you choose this option, skip to Step 6.

Note: The IPv6 radio button is available only if an IPv6 address is configured in the switch.

Step 4. If you chose Version 6 as the IP address version in Step 3, then in the IPv6 address type field, click the type of the IPv6 address. The available options are:

• Link Local — An IPv6 address that only identifies hosts on a single network link. If you choose this option, continue to Step 5.

• Global — an IPv6 address that is reachable from other networks. If you choose this option, skip to Step 6.

Step 5. If you chose Link Local as the IPv6 address type in Step 4, in the Link Local Interface drop-down list, choose the appropriate interface.

Step 6. Enter the name that identifies the mapped host in the Host Name field.

Step 7. Enter the IP address of the mapped host in the IP Address field.

Note: If you chose IPv6 as the IP address version, then you may add up to 4 IPv6 addresses.

Step 8. Click Apply to save your configuration.

Step 9. (Optional) To delete an entry in the Host Mapping Table, check the check box of the entry you want to delete and click Delete.
